Deadline approaching for Family Business Awards

Family-owned business from across the Midlands have less than two weeks left to enter the region’s flagship Midlands Family Business Awards - entries close on 31 July!

Entries for the UK’s only independent, not-for-profit annual Awards for family businesses in the Midlands, are free and can be made up until midnight on the 31st July.

Now in their eighth year, the Awards are the Midlands’ only initiative dedicated to celebrating and recognising the success, achievements and innovations of the region’s family run and owned businesses.

They are organised by Nottingham firm The Wilson Organisation, itself a family business now in its third generation.

The category line-up for 2017 includes the headline Midlands Family Business of the Year Award sponsored by family firm Bonningtons, the Fastest Growing Family Business sponsored by PwC, and the International Trade Award sponsored by Barclays.

Family firms can enter up to three categories from the full line-up of Awards this year:

Director of the Year – sponsored by Midland Conference Services

Entrepreneur of the Year – sponsored by Morningside Pharmaceuticals

People’s Choice Award - sponsored by Streets Chartered Accountants and decided by public vote.

Charlotte Perkins, MD of The Wilsons Organisation and a key member of the Awards team, is urging family firms not to miss out on this year’s Awards: “The Awards are the chance for all Midlands-based family businesses and their leaders to spotlight their great work. They can enter completely free of charge, but the clock is ticking, and they have less than two weeks left to make their Awards submission.

“We know that one of the hardest tasks for entrants is choosing a category, but our new website has lots of information to help narrow down their selection, with guidance on what the judges are looking for, and profiles of previous winners.

“Our Awards are completely independent and each of our ten Award categories has its own judging panel and its own judging day,” she adds. “When entries close, six finalists in each category will be chosen to go forward and meet their judging panel, with the informal interviews taking place from mid-September to mid-October.

“Each judging panel is led by a leading family business person, supported by a sponsor representative, an industry expert and representative from the Awards team, with the results a tightly kept secret until the Awards ceremony and dinner in November.”

The 2017 Midlands Family Business Awards ceremony and black-tie dinner takes place on Thursday 9th November 2017 at Derby Velodrome.
